Boxing: Souleymane Cissokho, a fight in Africa to “get closer to the myth of Mohamed Ali”

Bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics and still undefeated after 17 professional fights, the Frenchman is competing in a WBC world welterweight semi-final this Saturday in Equatorial Guinea.
By Eric MichelIn the long history of boxing, there are fights that have struck more than others. And among them, there is one above all: the "Rumble in the Jungle" between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman . This fight took place more than fifty years ago, on October 30, 1974. Its setting is what made it legendary: in Kinshasa, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), against the backdrop of the Cold War and the whims of dictator Mobutu. For the record, Ali triumphed by knockout in the 8th round.
For half a century, the idea of fighting again on these African soils to get closer to the myth has become a quest for many. Like Estelle Mossely and Tony Yoka , who have long cherished the dream of organizing a fight in the DRC, the country of their respective fathers.
